One unique thing about the Twitter username is that, it’s different from all other social networking sites username. It comes with @ (@twitter) symbol before your name. Twitter is different from most of the common social networks, because it has its own unique terms which enables its users navigate the site properly.
Here are some essential terms you need to know before you open that Twitter account:
DIRECT MESSAGE (DM): Just like the name, its a message to you that enters your inbox directly. It is exclusively visible to you and the sender.
TIMELINE (TL): This is the compilation of tweets you see on your twitter home page. Usually tweets by those you are following and those who are following you on twitter.
MENTIONS /REPLIES : This is when a person replies your tweet by mentioning what you wrote previously or a direct reply without quoting your previous tweet.
FOLLOWERS: These are twitter users who are following you on twitter and it’s only fair to follow back when you are followed on Twitter.
FOLLOWING: This is when you follow a user on Twitter. Usually celebrities always have more followers on twitter,you can follow them too, to be informed of their day to day experiences.
HASHTAG(#): When a particular topic or issue is trending, when you tweet about it you can use the hashtag. e.g #FollowBackFriday
